Palmeira – The port and maritime soul of Sal island

Palmeira is a picturesque coastal village on the west coast of Sal island, about 5 km from Espargos. It is one of the island's most important places thanks to its commercial port, the main entry point for the goods and essential products that supply the whole of Sal.

With deep roots in Cape Verdean maritime tradition, Palmeira is an authentic fishing village where life revolves around the sea. Its colourful houses, quiet streets and welcoming atmosphere make it a true haven of authenticity, far from the mass tourism of other parts of the island.

Besides the port, Palmeira is known for its beautiful coves, rocky coastal formations and excellent diving conditions. The village's coastline offers ideal spots for anyone wanting to explore marine life in crystal-clear water or simply relax by the sea.

The village centre has a laid-back atmosphere, with bars, cafés and local restaurants serving fresh fish, lobster and traditional Cape Verdean dishes. In the evening there is often live music and locals and visitors mingling.

Palmeira is also the starting point for several excursions, such as a visit to Buracona (with its famous “Blue Eye”) and other natural attractions on the west coast.
